Beau – age 5 ½ years old
Breed: American Bulldog and Boxer
I adopted Beau at the Red Bluff Humane Society at 10 weeks old. We lived in AZ for 5 years and have just returned recently to CA fyi.
Beau is a sweet and gentle dog EXCEPT cannot be trusted around my horse or any horse. He was recently nearly killed because of attacking my horse, and the horse was injured. He MUST go to a home that does not have horses.
His behavior is out of the ordinary otherwise in this respect: He is the stubbornness dog I have ever known or tried to train. When he wants to stop, he stops and it is like moving a mule. He loves to take a walk but right now is not in good condition due to his recent injury and is beginning to heal. The vet at Red Bluff Vet attended to him and he has been on antibiotic – now finished, and a medicine he takes daily to help with the neurological damage done to his one front leg; it is getting better. This was all due to attacking my horse. I thought we would lose him the injury was severe and traumatic, but he survived and is doing better. BUT HE MUST NOT BE AROUND HORSES.
He has a sweet nature otherwise and is good with other dogs; his companion dog has been a Shepherd/Collie mix (male); they will miss one another but I cannot take any more chances with him getting lose and attacking a horse, he has done this twice now. My daughter’s horse and now my own, causing injury to my horse.
His large feet get tender and inflamed sometimes. The only thing to help them cure is a dry powder with corn starch in it. Right now they are doing better. When they are like that he continually licks them. He is good about trimming his nails fyi.
I have tried and tried with Beau and his stubbornness never goes away, it is difficult to handle. He should have a home with an adult with patience as well as love for a sweet animal. He likes people, loves to take a walk, but does not like to come back in his home/gate and often takes a strong person to make him do so. DO NOT LET HIM LOOSE! He walks with a harness because he will come right out of a collar!! This is important! If he is loose he will not come back on command. He must be fenced at all times unless on harness and leash.
I love Beau and this is difficult to do, give him up after raising him from a pup, taking him with me to AZ and now moving back. :( It is sad but necessary because of my horse’s safety.
Whoever adopts him feel free to call me for any further information.
PS – He is very well house trained and good in the house, does not get on furniture, etc. Uses a soft large blanket to sleep on, does not stay outside in the cold winter night. This is important.
Also has been raised with small dogs (Chihuahuas, and cats and birds); not always friendly to a stray cat – may bark at them.
